Dr. Douglas Camp is a retired music teacher who has taught instrumental music in one form or another at all levels of instruction, beginner through college graduation. A native of rural Arkansas and the son of a lifelong, passionate fisherman, Doug can’t remember when he didn’t fish. He first visited the Rocky Mountain West 25 years ago on a vacation from Dallas with his wife. Since that initial trip, he has spent considerable time studying, researching and fly fishing the streams and lakes of the southern Rockies, both as a pastime and an avocation. In addition, he has studied fly tying with Charles Meck, Mike Lawson, Gary LaFontaine and Jack Dennis and is a noted instructor in his own right having taught courses for years at Los Rios Anglers in Taos, New Mexico.
He has presented information on fly fishing for numerous shops, fly fishing clubs and national organizations in Lubbock, Amarillo, Dallas, Albuquerque, Tucson and Colorado Springs; including a collaborative venture with Umpqua Feather Merchants entitled “Trout Don’t Speak Latin - Identifying Trout Foods and Selecting the Appropriate Trout Fly” at the Federation of Fly Fishers 1999 Southern Conclave. During the winter off-season, Doug likes to travel and fish with his wife Janet in either the Caribbean or New Zealand.
